Earthquake of magnitude 6.0 hits centre of Italy

An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 hits Central Italy in the extended area

between Lazio, Marche, Umbria and Abruzzo, causing deaths and

serious damages.

The first and strongest quake was recorded at 03:36 am on 24th

August 2016 with its epicenter near Accumoli, in the province of Rieti.

The most affected cities are Amatrice, where the city Mayor stated

that half of the ciry is destroyed, Accumoli and Reati.

In the area, several people lost their life.

The gravity of the situation in Amatrice is confirmed also by the head of

the Local Red Cross, who spoke about a crumbling bridge, the one of

Tre Occhi, which forced to enter the city only on foot causing the

slowing down of medical first aids.

In the area, several aftershocks have been recorded.

The earthquake violently hit also Rome, where many buildings shook

twice and for about 20 seconds.

281 is the numebr of victims recorded and 388 the number of injured

people. The numer of homeless people amounts to 2,500.
